The purpose of risk assessment is to:-

- Evaluate risk in terms of likelihood and consequence, decide if risk is managed adequately and if not make recommendations to manage the risk better

The following factors should be taken into account when carrying out a stress risk assessment:-
- workload, work patterns and work environment
- how much control there is over how work is done
- the support, encouragement and resources provided by the organisation
- the relationships which promote positive working, avoid conflict and deal with unacceptable behaviour
- a clear understanding of roles and the avoidance of conflicting roles
- how organisational change is managed and communicated
