JRL Solutions Ltd carries out risk assessments for lone workers and helps employers to meet their obligations under legislation. A lone worker is a person who works without close or direct supervision. The guidance to legislation makes it clear that lone workers are a category that may be exposed to particular risk.
The purpose of a lone working risk assessment is to:-
- Identify significant hazards
- Identify persons at risk including specific persons at greater risk
- Evaluate risk in terms of likelihood and consequence, decide if risk is managed adequately and if not make recommendations to manage the risk better
- Record the significant findings
- Be reviewed at appropriate intervals
A lone working risk assessment should include the following considerations:-
- Can risk be controlled by a person working alone?
- Is there a medical condition which may influence risk?
- Are there particular training issues to be addressed?
- Are there effective methods of supervision?
- How is work planned and how is information used?
- What happens in an emergency?
