JRL Solutions Ltd provides one day training workshops to help candidates for the International General Certificate achieve highly in IGC 3, the International General Certificate Practical Application.
JRL Solutions Ltd are a NEBOSH accredited training provider of the International General Certificate. As NEBOSH examiners who have marked very many IGC 3 Practical Applications we recognise that the standard presented by some candidates falls short of NEBOSH requirements. Although candidates pass IGC 1 and IGC 2 some find that they fail IGC 3 and therefore cannot be awarded the International General Certificate.
Candidates are failing to demonstrate an understanding of the NEBOSH marking criteria for IGC 3. Examiners mark IGC 3 taking into account the NEBOSH marking criteria. We include the guidance on the International General Certificate Practical Application.
The aim of IGC 3 is to assess a candidate’s ability to complete successfully two activities:-
- To carry out, unaided, a safety inspection of a workplace, identifying the more common hazards, deciding whether they are adequately controlled and, where necessary, suggesting appropriate and cost effective remedial action.
- To prepare a report that persuasively urges management to take appropriate action, explaining why such action is needed (including reference to possible breaches of legislation) and identifying, with due consideration of reasonable practicability, the remedial measures that should be implemented.
JRL Solutions Ltd provides training workshops which enable candidates to practise their skills in carrying out a safety inspection and preparing a management report. These workshops are based on NEBOSH requirements as portrayed in the marking criteria. Our workshops concentrate on what is meant by the following:-
For the safety inspection
- Full range of issues using the hazards in IGC 2
- At least 20 well described hazards to include the range of issues in IGC 2
- For each hazard immediate, medium and long term actions using the hierarchy of control
- For each hazard suitable remedial actions with realistic time scales
For the management report
- Selection of topics under headings which follows from the observational visit as being the most important issues
- For each topic realistic costs
- For each topic reference to breaches of international standards
- Appropriate presentation including convincing arguments using moral, legal and economic criteria
- A style that would convince a management to take action including clarity, concision, readability, evidence related to action and selectivity
Candidates attending these workshops are better equipped to achieve highly in IGC 3 the International Health and Safety Practical Application.
