Risk assessment is a careful examination of what hazards could harm people, an evaluation of the likelihood of an accident and the severity of injury and the establishment of adequate measures to control the risk. The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (as amended) requires an employer to make a suitable and sufficient assessment of the risk to employees and non employees who may be affected by their activities. JRL Solutions Ltd provides a two day course to enable those who will be carrying out risk assessment to meet the requirements of the law.
The syllabus for the course includes:-
- the legislative framework
- understanding what is meant by the term "suitable and sufficient"
- how to identify hazards
- understanding the range of persons who may be affected by risk
- qualitative and quantitive methods to evaluate risk
- deciding whether current control measures are adequate or whether additional control is required
- systems of recording the findings
- when it is appropriate to review the risk assessment
The course uses a hierarchial approach to the control of risk which includes :-
- Technical control
- Procedural/Organisational control
- Behavioural control
