DISPLAY SCREEN EQUIPMENT RISK ASESSMENT

DISPLAY SCREEN EQUIPMENT RISK ASESSMENT

There is a requirement under the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 for the employer to ensure that a risk assessment is carried out at display screen equipment workstations. Ths is to reduce the risk to health and safety of those using display screen equipment workstations. Ill health often develops insidiously and can result in musculoskeletal problems and upper limb disorders.

The risk assessment must be carried out by a competent person and be suitable and sufficient. To be suitable and sufficient it should identify the hazards at the workstation; identify the persons exposed to those hazards including those at particular risk; take into account the current control measures; evaluate the risk of injury or ill health; identify the additional control measures necessary; record the significant findings and review the analysis when the analysis is no longer valid.

JRL Solutions Ltd provides a one day course to improve the competence of those who will carry out these risk assessments.

The syllabus includes:-

  • why should we bother
  • potential ill health effects
  • appropriate legislation and standards
  • identifying hazards and evaluating risk
  • relevant standards
  • effective control of risk
  • reporting formats
  • reviewing assessments
