Within the principles of disability there is a duty not to treat disabled people less favourably for a reason relating to their disability unless this can be justified. The duty of reasonable adjustment applies where any physical feature of premises or any arrangements made result in a substantial disadvantage to a disabled person. Disability is defined as a physical or mental impairment having a substantial and long term adverse effect on a person's ability to carry out normal day to day activities. Disability issues can have a significant impact on occupational health and safety. People with disability must be considered when managing health and safety. In addition to policy all risk assessments should assess the risk of those with disability.
